What real residents are saying right now.
Pros: the mail system is decent and the postal workers are genuinely reliable. Additionally, the police force really isn’t bad. Local lifelong residents often complain about them, but having lived in major cities like Chicago, New York, and New Orleans, I can say the police here are quite reasonable by comparison. Social Services: The staff at local social services do the absolute best they can with what they have, but they are severely limited by budget cuts. | Cons: Social & Political Climate: Macomb has a distinct social climate that can feel incredibly unwelcoming if you don’t conform to the majority. There is a strong undercurrent of intolerance; anyone who doesn’t align with dominant conservative/MAGA views is frequently met with hostility or judgment. Customer service across town mirrors this lack of warmth, and the cost of living feels disproportionately high for a small town with so few amenities. Home Services: Finding trustworthy contractors is a nightmare. Most handymen and housing repair services I’ve encountered have been highly unprofessional or shady. Senior Services & Housing: The housing market is overpriced. Worse, the local senior/disabled housing options are poorly maintained and lack cleanliness. Due to a shrinking local tax base and limited state resources for the Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging, there are chronic funding gaps. This directly hurts focal points like the YMCA of McDonough County Senior Center. As a result, home-delivered meals face waitlists, caregiver respite capacity is stretched to the limit, and community outreach is severely understaffed. Healthcare & Transit: McDonough District Hospital (MDH) is clean, but the local doctors are incredibly iffy. I have not found medical professionals here who are truly knowledgeable, forcing me to travel to Peoria, Chicago, or larger regions for competent care. Public and private transportation is practically nonexistent; there are no taxi services, Uber is rarely available, and public transit funding pressures limit low-cost rides for seniors.
Pros: NOTHING | Cons: EVERYTHING. The Borough Manager is horrible and draining the town of all of its financial resources to line his pocket. No money to fill in pot holes but lots of money for a raise for him. DO NOT EVER MOVE HERE.
Pros: Fairly clean town, descent aesthetics in parts | Cons: Everything. This city pretends to be an extension of the more affluent adjacent city parkland. In reality coral springs hides ugly unsafe areas and pretends it is a safe crome-free town. It is also way overpriced considering the schools are sub-par, the shopping is very limited and there is very little to do in coral springs
Pros: Perfect weather, B+ crime rate, living for retired couples and family, neat to visit, and for young people to vacation. | Cons: The environment, the hospitality of the people, the education, the employment, the quality of life, the community, the shops, and the cost of quality.
Pros: Proximity to hiking trails, and a cute downtown. | Cons: Better events.
Pros: The lakes and farmers market on the square | Cons: Post quarantine there was a demographic shift that completely destroyed the livability of madison. Not to mention section 8 housing is being propped up every 10 blocks so there are guaranteed creeps with free rent, ebt cards, and no job everywhere you go making a mess of things. The police released the same arsonist 5 times in a month before he finally successfully burned a building down. Then he was released again anyways. You can hear gunshots down town every other week. It used to be never. Thanks brown people. Its not neighborly and full of filth.
Pros: Williamsport has some great restaurants and the annual Little League events. It has some very nice hotels. It has a nice centrally located bike path. The school system offers good programs for students in regular and Honors levels of classes. There are places to hike and recreate nearby like the Pine Creek Rail Trail and the South Williamsport Water Authority Trails. There are several nice parks in and nearby to Williamsport for sports, outdoor walking and recreation. There are a few stores locally and more 20 minutes away. | Cons: Crime related issues in certain neighborhoods including shootings and drug- related incidents are some concerns. People in Williamsport are not as polite or friendly as in other areas of Pennsylvania or the U.S. The natural gas companies are starting to cause water pollution. Williamsport has a lot of older houses that need repairs. This community needs more affordable housing that includes working heat and ac systems. Some of the older homes are not insulated correctly and can get very cold in the winter. Pennsylvania has an aging population and there are a lot of older people who live here while many young residents choose to leave permanently to find work. Williamsport needs more places of employment for its growing population as not all residents can find jobs and experiencing poverty is not good for some of its residents. There are church and community organizations which try to alleviate issues like lack of affordable housing or hunger for its residents. This city has a lower cost of living than other places in the U.S.
Pros: Not much | Cons: A lot
